"Lady Parts: The Bible and The Vagina Monologues (Common Hour - Lecture and Discussion)

Eve Ensler's controversial play The Vagina Monologues has offended Christians around the world with its "unbiblical" stance on women's sexuality. But what does the Bible actually say about women and their bodies? A project at Alma College (Michigan) and Barton College (North Carolina) explored this question through creative monologues written in the voices of female characters from the Hebrew and Christian scriptures. The results are tragic and horrifying, as well as comical and redemptive.

Kate Blanchard, a Kenyon alumna (1992) is associate professor of religious studies at Alma College in Michigan. She is the author of The Protestant Ethic or the Spirit of Capitalism: Christians, Freedom, and Free Markets (Cascade 2010) and co-editor of Lady Parts: Biblical Women and The Vagina Monologues (Wipf & Stock, 2012). She is currently on sabbatical working on a project at the intersection of Christian ecological ethics and free market environmentalism.
