Professor William Miller in the College of Public Health at The Ohio State University will discuss the severe opioid abuse epidemic that Ohio is experiencing. The epidemic has led to marked increases in overdose-related deaths, hepatitis C infections, and neonatal abstinence syndrome in Ohio. In rural areas, resources to address the opioid epidemic and its consequences are limited. His office is about to embark on an NIH-funded study to examine ways to reduce the impact of opioids in rural Ohio.
