Join the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Unity House for a lecture in recognition of Transgender Day of Visibility!
This lecture will be presented by Ivy Gibson-Hill (they/them or ze/hir), who is the executive director of Gender Benders and the community health program director for the Campaign for Southern Equality, which are both based in North Carolina.
Synopsis: In the presentation, Ivy will focus on non-binary identities and Trans Day of Visibility. Ivy will share some of their experiences being a genderqueer grassroots advocate over the last 15 years. They will also discuss the pushback they’ve been met with from outside and within the community, and the ways that has changed over time. Additionally, they will also talk about what it means to center non-binary people in Trans Day of Visibility. This presentation will be interactive, and it will include facilitated conversation to get attendees to challenge their own ideas about what it means to be a true accomplice to transgender and non-binary people.
Funding for this event is provided by the Student LGBTQ+ Diversity Fund.
