Kenyon's Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform its winter concert on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. in Rosse Hall Auditorium. The program includes some standards for band, such as Clifton Williams' "Fanfare and Allegro" and Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Folk Song Suite," as well as newer compositions, including Joni Greene's "Moonscape Awakening."
We are most honored to feature soloist mezzo soprano Jennifer Marcellana (of Kenyon's voice faculty), who will sing two orchestral Lieder from Gustav Mahler's "The Boy's Magic Horn."
The band's main work on this program, Ottorino Respighi's "The Pines of Rome," will be followed by a performance of a work by Ohio's own John Mackey. His "Foundry" calls for an expanded percussion section, many of its members playing homemade instruments, what he calls "found percussion." If you have ever wanted to see how a basic charcoal grill can be transformed into a percussion instrument, this Sunday presents you with the opportunity!
This concert is free and open to the public.
