If it’s a leap year, February gets an extra day – and Kenyon music lovers get an extra treat: Robert Milnikel, a member of the mathematics faculty as well as a talented clarinetist, presents his Quadrennial Leap Day Recital.
The 2016 edition of the recital features Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring Suite along with several shorter works, performed by ensembles of students, faculty and staff.
Milnikel, who plays with both Kenyon’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Knox County Symphony, started the Leap Day tradition in 1992, when his undergraduate senior recital at Carleton College fell on February 29. He brought the every-four-years tradition to Kenyon when he joined the faculty in 2002.
Featuring the following musicians: Aidan Gross, Alayne Wegner, Alison Furlong, Antoinette Steely, Beverly Morse, Celso Villegas, Clara Yetter, Dane Heuchemer, Devon Chodzin, Dylan Ogden, Elna McIntosh, Franny Alani, Gwen Lloyd, Hannah Vilas, Jeremy Moore, Jon Tazewell, Jordan Potter, Kraig Davis, Michaela Orr, Pamela Faust, Paula Turner, Percy Gates, Shiloh Six, Sonya Broeren, Stephen Volz, Tessie Prakas and Tyler Raso.
