Under the direction of Professor Ted Buehrer, the Kenyon College Jazz Ensemble's winter program will feature music composed and arranged exclusively by women in jazz.
Under-represented in jazz historiography, women have made important contributions to jazz history throughout its evolution, and the ensemble will highlight some of the compositions and arrangements from the older generations like Mary Lou Williams, Melba Liston and Toshiko Akiyoshi, as well as contemporary composers that include Maria Schneider, Jen Krupa and Patty Darling. Guest performer at the concert will be Kenyon alumna Andrea Daly '06, who will sing one of her original compositions with the band as well as another by trumpeter/vocalist Bria Skonberg.
