The Department of Physics welcomes Sydney Chamberlin, Science Fellow with the California Council on Science and Technology.
Abstract: "Have you ever wondered how scientific findings influence (or fail to influence) the decisions that our elected officials make? Or how science can be used to help solve the many problems facing our globe? In this talk, I’ll share my journey in transitioning from the world of astrophysics research to the public policy sector. We’ll talk about how ideas become laws, highlight some of the challenges facing today’s decision makers, and illustrate the ways that you can use your background in physics to help craft solutions to complex problems relating to public health, transportation, climate change, and more.
All talks begin promptly at 12:10 p.m. Lunch will be served from 11:50 to 12:10.
Friday, September 20 at 12:10pm to 1:00pm
