Taking many forms and often produced with readily accessible materials and processes, "zines" (short for "magazines") are raw, creative and democratic. In response to current Gund exhibition "Publishing Against the Grain," our two-session workshop Zines Now! offers community members an opportunity to discover the strategies and techniques required to create a zine. For the first session, students will investigate a range of quick and simple techniques. We'll make a zine from one sheet of paper and investigate stitched pamphlets and bound booklet formats. During the second session, participants will use their own thematic materials to make a zine edition.
To get the most from the experience, participants are asked to attend both sessions.
