Stories help bring art to life. We invite our youngest art aficionados for special storytimes thematically linked to the art on view. We’ll open early and have a hands-on activity just for kids. The galleries remain open after we’re done so that attendees can walk through the exhibitions at their own pace. All age groups are welcome, but book selections are geared towards Pre-K to Grade 2.
Expanding upon themes of healing found in Soundings: An Exhibition in Five Parts, our second storytime honors First Nation cultural traditions and families. Monique Gray Smith’s "My Heart Fills With Happiness" supports indigenous families by focusing on experiences that promote wellbeing. A story of resilience and strength, When We Were Alone by David A. Robertson gently introduces young readers to the painful legacy of Indian Residential Schools as a child asks her Nókom (Grandmother) innocent questions.
