Every year 700-900 U.S. women and 289,000 women around the world die in pregnancy and childbirth. U.S. Black women die at 4 times the rate of White women.
In honor of International Day for Maternal Health and Rights, students from the Program in Women's and Gender Studies course "Intersectionality, Reproductive Justice, and Health Equity" will facilitate conversations about disparities in maternal health and health care and solutions to advancing the human right to safe motherhood and access to respectful care and health clinics that meet the need of all persons before, during, and after pregnancy.
The keynote speakers will be Jessica Roach and Laurel S. Gourrier '10 from Restoring Our Own Through Transformation (ROOTT).
